History
The Early Years
The Avalon Bulldogs Junior Rugby League Club commenced in the Manly Warringah District Junior Rugby League in 1962.
Our first premiership win was in 1965 by our youngest team, the under 9's. Our Club was awarded the Pop Hall Trophy for the "Best Club" in Manly Warringah JRL in 1982, 1983, 1988, 1994 and 1999.
From a Doggie to the NRL
One of our own, Sam Verrills, made his NRL debut in round 6 of the 2019 NRL season for the Sydney Roosters against the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park.[2] In his debut year, Verrills played his first grand final at ANZ Stadium with the Sydney Roosters and won his first premiership. The match was contested between defending premiers the Sydney Roosters and the Canberra Raiders. Verrills scored the opening try after 6 minutes and the match was eventually won by Sydney Roosters. In December of 2020 Verrills signed a contract extension keeping him at the Sydney Roosters until the end of 2024.
