Australia Day 2012

THONG THROWING COMPETITION AT NEWPORT BEACH

Each year the Avalon Bulldogs volunteer to run the thong throwing competition at the Newport Beach Australia Day celebrations for the Lions Club. What a day! It poured with rain most of the morning but this didn’t deter some of the serious thong throwers out there. The longest throw of the day was a massive 41.5m!! Not to be sneezed at considering the conditions. It was disappointing that the rain kept the normally large crowds away this year but those that braved the conditions well and truly got in to the spirit. Thank you so much to our Volunteers on the day Thommo’s, Donna Groom, Lisa Matthews, Michael Birtwistle and stalwart Mick Dick. How good does a drowned bulldog look Mick!!

Congratulations Boys!

AVALON BULLDOGS SELECTED FOR MANLY SEA EAGLES HAROLD MATTHEWS TEAM

This year the Club has been fortunate to have 2 of their players named in the Manly Sea Eagles Harold Matthews Team. Aaron Groom and Dan Matthews from this year’s U/16s have both been training hard since late last year 4 nights a week. Both thoroughly deserve to be in the Team. Unfortunately Dan broke his ankle in Round 3 of the Competition on February 25th against  Eastern Suburbs. Get well soon Dan.
